Shroud whose original name is Michael Grzesiek, was born on June 2, 1994 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Shroud is known for playing first-person shooter and battle royale games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, Escape from Tarkov, Valorant, and more. Shroud is often recognized as one of the best “aimers”.As of August 2021, Shroud Twitch channel has reached over 9 million followers, ranking as the fifth most-followed channel on the platform, and his YouTube channel has over 6.82 million subscribers.

Shroud stared his professional gaming career playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, bouncing around from several teams.

Shroud started his Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) career with several ESEA teams, particularly Exertus eSports and Manajuma. Shroud was soon signed by compLexity Gaming as a stand-in, and later by Cloud9 in August 2014 when they acquired the roster of compLexity. Shroud helped lead Cloud9 to a first-place finish at ESL Pro League Season 4 in 2016 and a second place in ESL One Cologne 2017.

On August 16, 2017, it was announced that Shroud and long-time teammate Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert would be stepping down from Cloud9’s active roster.

At some point Shroud moved to Orange County, California to pursue his career full-time.

In 2016 Shroud helped Cloud9 place first at the ESL Pro League Season 4. They placed second at ESL One Cologne the following year.

In April 2018 Shroud announced he was stepping down from Cloud9 and retiring from playing Counter Strike professionally.

Shroud then transitioned to Twitch streaming full-time, reaching 100,000 subscribers within a year.

Microsoft Mixer/Facebook Contract Buyout

In October 2019,he follwed Ninja’s and Shroud accepted a contract to leave Twitch and become exclusive to Microsoft’s Mixer app. In June 2020 Microsoft announced it was shuttering Mixer and folding the platform into Facebook Gaming. Shroud was reportedly offered a significant contract from Facebook, supposedly two times his Microsoft contract. Shroud famously refused to join Facebook which triggered a contract buyout from Microsoft. Ninja made the same decision. The combined payout was reportedly $40 million, with Shroud receiving $10 million and Ninja $30 million.

In August 2020 Shroud returned to Twitch, reportedly having to pay as much as $10 million to buy himself out.

Shroud first stream after returning attracted more than 516,000 concurrent viewers.
