Baldwin was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top players in his class for 2021. Patrick was also the youngest person ever to receive an offer to play for Duke when he received an offer during his sophomore year of high school.

Baldwin became the highest-rated recruit ever signed to the Horizon League program. In his college debut, Baldwin tallied 21 points and his 10 rebounds in his 75–60 win over North Dakota.
