Bill Clinton political Career:

His political career started when he was elected as the governor of Arkansas in 1978. He then went on to bring a change in the educational system during his governing period and becoming the youngest governor to be elected in 40 years.

After his term ended, Bill Clinton tried but lost the reelection and that was also the year when his daughter Chelsea was born in 1980.

With an apology to his voters for all the wrong decisions he took during his time as governor he had a change in his fortune and was elected governor once again and won 3 elections consistently.

This time encouraged investments in the state by granting tax breaks to industries, he became a well-known leader of the Democratic Leadership Council who wanted to rejenuvate the party’s agenda and turn it from its traditional liberalism to bring it closer to what is perceived as American political life.

  He declared his name for presidency whilst being the governor of Arkansas. He almost lost his voters due to press coverage of his alleged affair with Arkansas women.

Following this Bill Clinton attended interviews and on the 60 minutes program, he and his wife Hillary admitted to having problems in their marriage.

Soon he gained back popular vote and with his middle of the road approach, his sympathy for ordinary Americans and his personal warmth won him the elections and he sat on the chair at the oval office in the white house.

The Clinton administration started off on weak legs, his campaign to stop discrimination of Gay and lesbian men and women in the armed forces received bad press from the people as well as the conservatives.

To counter this he introduced the policy of don’t ask and don’t tell which failed to please either side.  Other problems like his elected Attorney generals resigning after questions were raised on their employment of domestic help and his campaigns to bring change and reform in the legislation were all trashed or met a stone wall.

He also appointed various women and also his wife to chair the task force on national healthcare and reform but were not taken seriously due to their feminist approach.

Though not all was bad in the first year of his presidency, He succeeded in convincing the congress to free trade in North America and the appointment of several women of the minority background in significant government posts in all the years of his reign. 

Other accolades include breaking vote for major bills like prevention of crime, environment, and women and family issues.

Bill Clinton Investigations and probes:

 In January 1994, Attorney General Reno approved of an investigation in the business dealings between Clinton and his wife and the Arkansas based firm called Whitewater.  This enquiry which started in August lasted for several years bleeding millions of money into it but no evidence of wrong doing was found against the defense.

The renewal of the case saw the Clinton administration loose its voters and people started to distance themselves from them. This caused the Republican Party to win many votes which resulted in Clinton having to cut down on many of his policies.

Soon people started to feel harassed by the Republican policies and felt inclined towards the Clinton Administration as their policies were lighter and not imposing.

Clinton’s Foreign trade policies were greatly successful. His amiable work to reinstate the Haitian president who had to abdicate his seat due to military coup, the sponsorship of military talks between Bosnia and Herzegovina and played an important role in bringing lasting peace to the dispute between the Palestine and Israeli government.  

He also ordered a four day bombarding of Iraq in December 1998 in response to their refusal to cooperate with the weapons inspectors from the United Nations council.

He also took a major decision regarding the three month bombing of Kosovo Albania to drive out the Serbians.  

He was given the name of the peacemaker in Ireland and when he visited Vietnam in 2000, he came to be known as the first President to arrive in Vietnam ever since the conflict broke out. He tried to manufacture a peace treaty between the Israelis and Palestine.

 In 1998 attorney Starr was given permission to expand his investigation and it was found that he had encouraged a 24 year year old Monica Lewinsky to lie under oath that they were not having an illicit affair.

When this revelation came out, Clinton denied it and insisted on it being Slander but the damage had been done. Clinton apologized to his family and the public. He was impeached in 1998 and though he was acquitted of the charges, he spent the last days of his presidency in trying to bring peace in the Middle East.
